Sleeping Christians on the Fishing Boats

The boats on the water

June 2016

In June 2016 I had a vision, I was on my bed praying in the Spirit when the vision came. I saw many small boats, maybe 40 or 50, floating on the ocean. Above the ocean were dark clouds forming a layer. The sea itself was dark in colour, and was moving about gently. In the boats were people, and the people were all asleep. I understood that I needed to pray.

I started to pray in the Spirit. As I prayed, the clouds opened up. Bright light, yellow and white shone through where the clouds were clearing. I realised that above the layer of dark clouds, was another sky which was full of light and life. I continued to pray, and I started seeing the sleeping people being drawn up into the light, and being transported to that place above the dark clouds. I continued to pray, and more and more people were drawn up.

I understood that these were Christians. Instead of being fishers of men, they were sleeping, and not being active in their ministries/given talent. Then I was shown even more of the ocean, over and beyond the small patch of sea where the light was shining. My eyes saw hundreds of thousands of boats, all of them with sleeping people, under a dark grey sky. I felt helpless, I couldn’t possibly pray for so many people. So many Christians…sleeping…

Matthew 9:35-38 New King James Version (NKJV)

The Compassion of Jesus

35 Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.[a] 36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary[b] and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

I DO Believe, Help My Unbelief!

Today I want to encourage believers. God has been really working in my life and my faith has grown a lot. The growing of faith requires that we as Christians work together in obedience with the Holy Spirit when He guides and also to just step out in faith. When we step out in faith, we give complete control of the situation over to the Holy Spirit. It’s a risk that we take and we have absolutely nothing to fall back on, except on Jesus.

I struggled with faith for a long time. We all hear stories of miracles or healings happening somewhere out there in the world, even on TV, but I never thought that I could lay hands on someone and they would be healed (hasn’t happened yet, but I now believe that it is possible), or that I would participate in a deliverance of someone with multiple demons(https://visionsforthisage.wordpress.com/2017/06/26/freedom/) or that I could pray with someone and that they would receive the Holy Spirit and start speaking in tongues (happened last weekend). Watching The Last Reformation movies (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-n6SJJHpb8, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zka4DUYeJ5g) sparked the fire but I still had a long way to go.

Deep down I knew that I was lacking in faith. I completely agreed with all the principles presented by The Last Reformation team, namely:

Mark 16:17-18 (KJV)

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

So all that believe should have these signs following them. I believed it, but still didn’t believe it for me. A verse that came up to mind a lot to me during this time was

Mark 9: 17-24

17 Then one of the crowd answered and said, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit. 18 And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. So I spoke to Your disciples, that they should cast it out, but they could not.”

19 He answered him and said, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.” 20 Then they brought him to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth.

21 So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?”

And he said, “From childhood. 22 And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”

23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe,[a] all things are possible to him who believes.”

24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”

I was that father, believing but yet full of unbelief. But I yearned for more of Jesus and for more of his presence in my life. I was burning for so much more. Over Christmas 2016 I asked a pastor at a church I was visiting to pray for me, that God would start using me to serve others. The father who although did not completely believe, still took action and took his son to the disciples for healing.

I am so grateful because God is a wonderful father who hears the prayers of his children and gives them accordingly. I was lucky that God sent someone in my life who demonstrated what it is like to have complete faith in Jesus and be completely reliant on the Holy Spirit. I spent some time with this person praying over people, believers and non-believers for healing, deliverance, the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and just learning how to step-out in faith. It was an amazing experience which really encouraged me. I wanted this faith in my life, I needed it and I knew that if I was going to go further in my walk with God, I would have to work on my faith.

So what did I do? I started listening to the Holy Spirit when He led me. This can lead to awkward situations so just be warned, but our obedience will be rewarded. Derek Prince says faith is like a muscle, you have to exercise it in order for it to grow. At work I prayed over a woman with back-pain that I work closely with. She did not receive healing but I was so overjoyed that I had conquered my fear and offered to pray for her. Then I remember praying for a homeless person who was passed out on the steps at the entrance of a supermarket. I just put my hands on him and spoke in tongues over him. When he started stirring I moved on. There is also a man at my church with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). I felt the Spirit leading me to sit behind him at church and lay my hands on him and pray over him. He usually falls asleep during the service, which is when I would take the opportunity to do this. Also, once whilst I was waiting for the bus at the busstop, I got into a conversation with an old man. It turned out that we were waiting for the same bus. He told me that he had just come from visiting the Mormon Church. Immediately all my warning bells started ringing. I told him a little bit about Jesus. He seemed interested to hear more. We ended up taking our Bus and getting off at a local Park and walking around the park talking. I witnessed to him to the best of my ability. He was not converted but  I have his telephone number and I call him now and again to check up on him. He is very sick, and possibly dying. There is still hope.

Another thing where God rewarded my faith was in the interpretation of tongues. I desired the gift of interpretation of tongues maybe a few months after I started speaking in tongues (last year) . This desire was completely biblical:

1 Corinthians 14 (NKJV)

Prophecy and Tongues

14 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for[a] he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.

I knew that when we pray in tongues, it is the Holy Spirit himself that is praying through us. I thirsted to understand the words that were coming out of my mouth. Paul continues to teach the Corinthians:

13 Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.

So if we are told that we should pray for the gift of interpretation, why wouldn’t we?

But it was only this year that the desire to interpret tongues was reawakened in me. I was at a Kickstart event and the speaker told us how he had never been able to interpret tongues, but a friend of him he had the gift just showed him how to do it, and he was able to do it and that it was pretty easy (to put it into his words).  So is it pretty easy? In a way yes in a way no. It requires faith and many people still need to work on their faith, just like I had to.

He also explained to us how the Holy Spirit is like a smart phone. A 3 year old child cannot do much with a smart phone. Maybe there is a cute game that their mother has downloaded for the child which the child can play, but other than that the child does not have the full knowledge of how to use the phone. Now imagine the father of the child takes that same smartphone and sends an email to his work, then call his friend, then checks his Facebook account, then texts his oldest son, then buys something on the phone on amazon, googles something, reads his daily news article etc etc etc…The point is, it’s the same phone that was in the hands of the child and the hands of the father. So the Holy Spirit is also still the same. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead (Romans 8:11), the same Spirit that Jesus performed all his miracles with in the New Testament, the same Spirit that the disciples received at Pentecost in the upper room is the same Spirit living inside of us today; we just need to learn how to operate in the Spirit. After truly understanding this I felt like jumping over mountains. Can you imagine the power that you have inside of you believer?

I watched a video of Derek Prince, Interpretation and Prophecy; I will post the video at the end. I watched this video before last year, but this time I was a different person. My level of faith had grown and I simply believed that I would receive the gift of interpreting tongues. After his talk on the subject Derek Prince leads the congregation in an exercise.  I encourage everyone to watch the video, do the exercise and receive the interpretation of your tongues. It’s easy in that all you have to do is hear from the Holy Spirit; just like tongues where you don’t have to think about what you’re saying, the interpretation also just comes to you. You don’t have to think and analyse. On the other hand it’s hard in that it requires faith.

So why is it so hard to have faith?

There are so many reasons.

  • People can feel unworthy and believe they don’t deserve or are incapable in manifesting the gifts of the Spirit.
  • People can come from a church background that teaches against tongues, prophecy and other gifts of the Holy Spirit (false doctrine, religious churches for example)
  • People may carry a spirit of unbelief which is blinding them and preventing their faith growing. If you think this is you, pray, cast out that spirit and start walking in your calling.
  • People may have fear about the manifestations of the Holy Spirit. Tongues might sound strange and abnormal to some people and they would rather stay away from such things. We always fear the unknown.
  • People might just be part of a congregation that does not teach about the gifts of the Holy Spirit and how freely available they are to all believers. These teachings can often be neglected by Pastors.

The root of my unbelief was condemnation. I was fighting a spiritual battle with a spirit of condemnation who reminded me, every-time I wanted to do something for God, about my past. Even writing blog posts was a struggle, there was always that voice saying “who are you to…?” I had to work a lot on proclaiming the victory of salvation and redemption of my sins through the blood of Jesus Christ. I had to change the way I viewed myself and see myself as the daughter of the Most High King, a co-heir of Jesus Christ himself, a beloved sheep in my Father’s hold. When this battle was won, I could start growing my faith because I believed that I had the authority and could walk in obedience to the Holy Spirit in my victory, focused on Jesus Christ, moving forward and not looking back.

I just want to encourage you believers, exercise those faith muscles, obey the Holy Spirit and just watch how God takes you from strength to strength, glory to glory. Don’t be like the disciples that Jesus rebuked “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.”

Start stepping out in faith. Also pray for God to give you more faith, ask your father and he shall give. During the 7 days of midnight prayer that I participated in just some weeks ago, I prayed for God to give me supernatural faith, the kind of faith that moves mountains. Pray, believe and receive.

Matthew 17: 20

20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief;[d] for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
